Various theories have been established regarding the causes of ADHD. Out of these theories none is completely accepted. However, most of them hold some facts about ADHD. Therefore by knowing these theories it becomes easy to establish the true origin of ADHD. The most primitive of these theories is the hunter vs. farmer theory. This theory was established by Thom Hartman. According to him primitively humans had two kinds of behaviors. They were either hunters or farmers in their thoughts. The establishment of this thought led him to the proposition of a theory that ADHD is a result of the adaptive behavior of the human society. The development of ADHD is actually due to retaining of the few characteristics of hunter society of the pre agricultural world. Another theory proposed by different research workers is the theory of neuro diversity. This theory proposes that like other differences in humans they may also be neurologically divergent and may have different neurological behavior. A child suffering from ADHD is unable to sit in the class or to study and he cannot concentrate upon simple things as well. This theory proposes that it is a simple neurological variant of the human behavior just like other divergent behaviors of the children. Some researchers also tend to associate this disorder with creativity and with exceptional intelligence. So according to them biological variations and genetic factors should be carefully visualized in order to check if the deficit in attention is pointing towards some instability or it is indicating true form brilliance. Because people lying in the same spectrum of attention difference can vary to extremely large scales in their performances. There are stills debates over the issue if ADHD is in actual practice a biological illness or not. Some researchers think that there is no such thing as ADHD. It is a disorder that is invented instead of being discovered. There is no such real disorder like ADHD. All such symptoms and signs can be explained on the basis of personality variations and other such things. The behavior which is shown by a child thought to be suffering from ADHD is either a part of his personality or it is nothing more than a variant which is sociological and environmental in orientation. Thereby ADHD should not be considered as a serious problem as it is not even a real problem. According to another theory the children suffering from ADHD have a low output and they mostly persist in a low arousal state. They are not at the normal level of activity and they therefore respond more to the environmental stimuli. In this way they go for excessive activity to seek their own selves and compensate for there weakness of low arousal. Such children cannot self moderate and all of there activity and actions are only a result of the external stimuli. But the external stimuli are never enough to make them feel comfortable and allow them to compensate for their state of low arousal. As a result such children device certain stimuli for themselves and start acting according to them. That is the reason they are often found walking, running and talking. This theory also explains the positive effect of stimulant medications on such children. These drugs have a calming effect on such children. This theory proves that ADHD is a real biological disease and is strongly related with dopamine and its receptors. The positron emission topographic scan also supports the biological nature of the disease as it is low stimulation as well. So this makes low arousal theory the most important one.
