The surgery is otherwise known as submalar/malar augmentation procedure among doctors. It is a type of cosmetic procedure performed to augment facial bone and there by to define your face. As cheek bones are largely responsible to maintain the face shape, alterations can improve charm and impression. The procedure balances facial features and helps to regain a vibrant look. Cheek implant augmentations are performed for rejuvenation or reconstructive purposes.

Procedure and technique

Cheek implants are done through incisions made on chin and implanting fat or other fillers made artificially. The implants can be of any size and shape desired by the patient. Incisions are made carefully beneath lower eyelashes or inside mouth. Based on that, there are three procedures and finally depends on the patient’s desire of what he or she should look like after surgery. A pocket will be created by the surgeon to deposit material.  Surgical insertions are made up of non-reactive and safe materials like solid silicone, a commonly used material, or PTFE or polythene. These can be removed easily if feel uncomfortable later.  In some cases, the insertions will be stitched or screwed more firmly to deep internal structures in skin. The materials used are so biocompatible that they feel like a normal tissue beneath bone.
