ADHD like no fixed etiological basis has no proper and definite treatment and it is usually a self limiting syndrome. There is no exact treatment for this disorder however, different management plans including the conventional medicine and various alternative treatment strategies have been worked out with a rate of success varying from individual to individual. The treatment is mostly symptomatic as there is no exact cure of the disease. Some children are more troubled with the symptoms related to lack of attention whereas others are more affected by the increased activity and they have to be treated accordingly. The parents of the child should have a clear cut idea of what ADHD really is. They should be helpful to the child in order to make him cope with the various symptoms produced by this disease. The damage being done to the brain can’t be healed however; its resulting symptoms and debilitation can be decreased to a much lesser extent. The doctors usually advise multimodal therapy for the treatment of ADHD. This therapy includes the careful handling of the child by his parents, the appropriate diet required by the child, help for the child at school and proper medication which may include conventional or alternative medicine varying from child to child. This multimodal therapy has proven effective in most of the cases and has decreased the debilitation produced by this disease to a much lower extent. The first thing which comes when one thinks of dealing with a child suffering from ADHD is the management of extra bit of activity present in the child in a positive way. This can be done by give some physical work to the child. Daily exercise is highly recommended in such cases. Sports like martial arts have also been proven useful in controlling the negative symptoms of adhd. They help the child to fulfill his desire to keep moving. Thereby, the child suffering from ADHD must be subjected to regular daily exercise. The diet of the child is another important factor and it should be adjusted in such a way that the child should have proper amount of balanced nutrition to maintain his physical and mental health. There should be a proper amount of brain supporting nutrients in order to maintain the cognitive ability and memory of the child. The child must be freed from stresses like physical illnesses and others. The child must be given confidence that he is as good as other children and he can perform well. There is no real deficiency within him. He is just different and there is nothing wrong with it. He is not crazy or something likes that. His brain just works in a different way. This reassurance is of extreme significance regarding the therapy of ADHD. In spite of these general measures medication is also available for the treatment of ADHD. This includes concentration enhancing drugs like methylphenidate and amphetamine. They do have some adverse effects but still the most commonly used drugs for the treatment of ADHD. Besides this there is alternative medical therapy as well. Various herbs like caffeine and ginseng have been useful as brain tonics in the treatment of this disease. The Chinese herbs have also been helpful as they target on maintaining a balance in the body and this overall balance is definitely helpful in fighting the effects produced by ADHD. Homeopathic medicine like cika has also been used with quite success in the treatment of ADHD. Anyone of these medications best suited to the child should be given to him.
