Binge eating virtually destroy all your weight control efforts. If you succeed in controlling your binge eating impulses, you can make one of the most important steps to lose weight on the long run with success. They say people that are binge eating give up controlling their problems, because the main cause is in their heads, and since they are so disappointed when each and every diet fails, they only turn to food once more and start eating just like before. It’s not only a scientific opinion this is exactly what I used to do. After a few dieting days that were so hard, I weighted myself and then simply gave up, being convinced that I will never ever be able to control my weight.
My main problem that causes me to be unable to shake this binge eating habit was the fact that I had no one to support me. It’s not like I don’t have friends that wouldn’t been more than happy to do it, it’s just like I always did everything in secret, as if eating and trying to help binge eating persons would be the greatest sin, or at least something to be very ashamed of.
Because I had no one to push me or maintain me, there was no binge eating help so whenever I felt depressed after a failure of any sort, including the failures concerning the binge eating disorder. It is essential to try and help a friend or family member that has problems in this direction, or to get someone to help you in case you are the one suffering from this.
The worst part of binge eating is that it does nothing but multiply your problems, which are the ones you think cause it, and also the ones you are trying to forget about while binge eating. Instead of solving them, you are creating others: you gain weight, you feel guilty because you eat, and you worsen your health. And then, there is nothing left for you than to start over again.
There are many people wondering how to help someone with binge eating. They tried to make those people aware of their problems, but they only depressed them more, casing them to eat even more. A standard program designed to help people with binge eating disorder includes a few small but important steps that are very much related to the emotional causes behind this condition.
- When trying to help someone with binge eating you have to help them identify the emotional states that make them eat. - Teach them how to recognize the signals of normal hunger sensation, because if they are binge eating they are probably never hungry. - If they can’t stop eating, they should at least limit the consumption of unhealthy foods, any over-processed foods, with preservatives, sugar, cookies, and snacks and so on. The best solution is to stop buying these sorts of aliments. - The most important thing when trying to help binge eating, is to offer suffering people at least 3 important meals a day. Not eating regularly always leads to an unhealthy alimentation. - Do some research or direct these people to focused groups where they can learn how to create alternatives to eating. It doesn’t matter if it means preparing a foam bath or browsing a magazine or a good book, each time when an uncontrollable need to eat is felt the suffering person should get involved in an activity that can relax them and help them forget the urge to eat.
The most important thing when helping someone with binge eating is to sustain them so that they never give up. Even if they fail a bit by eating two chocolates at once, everyone does fail sometimes, and giving up is not an option. Therapy might also help, because they need to forgive themselves and start over the next day. Learning from mistakes is also important, as well as concentrating on the positive part of things. This will help them lose weight with success and in time forget all about binge eating.
