Pathology is the study and diagnosis of the processes underneath illness, abnormality of body through examination of cells, tissues and organs affected by disease.
Pathology is often called as the most scientific branch of medicine because of huge possibilities of research. The circulation of pathological data is of primary importance in medical informatics.
The people who report on all submitted specimen are called pathologists. Cell and tissues samples are collected from the patient’s body and examined. The primary goal of a pathologist is to find out the cause of disease, the factor that causes it, the changes in body structures and the results of such changes. Doctors prescribe treatments only after analyzing a pathologist’s report. Perhaps that’s why they are referred to as doctor’s doctor.
The techniques used by a pathologist for diagnosis are:
Gross pathology, which involves recognizing the disease on the basis of examination of specimen through a microscope.
Cytology that is the study of detached cells.
Immunology, which makes use of certain antibodies and immune markers for recognition of disease.
There are different branches of pathology such as medicine that includes anatomy pathology as well as clinical pathology. Then we have other branches as dentistry pathology, experimental pathology, speech pathology, parasitology, psychopathology etc.
