Radiology is the special subject of medical science that supervises the technologies of medical imaging for diagnosing and sometimes for treating the diseases too. Originally, it had the features of medical science for dealing with the medical usages of X-rays, discharged by X-ray machines or some other radiation instruments, for determination of acquiring visual knowledge as a part of medical imaging.
This process of acquiring medical images is usually done by the radiologic technologist or the radiographer. Patients have to follow certain procedures to furnish themselves with the images, so that radiological decisions can be made. The procedures are Projection radiography, Fluoroscopy, CT scanning, Ultrasound, MRI/NMR, and Nuclear medicine. As a medical special subject, radiology can be categorized as Interventional radiology, Radiation therapy, Diagnostic radiology, Interventional Neuroradiology and Neuroradiology.
For radiologist training in the USA, one has to finish four years study in the medical school plus five years training for post-graduation. After completion of post-graduation, a radiologist can go for either practice or can register for fellowship program in any of the subspecialty of radiologic like MRI, musculoskeletal imaging, thoracic or abdominal imaging, neuroradiology, interventional radiology, women`s imaging, pediatric radiology, etc. Now-a-days, radiology can be considered as a pretty competitive field.
